Healthy Plant Services

At Big "O" Tree and Lawn Service we are committed to the health and beauty of your entire landscape.

Consider joining our very popular plant health care (PHC) program. We work with you to develop a preventative health care program for the trees, woody perennials, and shrubs in your unique landscape. We monitor your landscape plants on a regular basis to spot problems while they are still small and treatable. This includes spotting potential tree hazards, new insect outbreaks, early signs of disease, and nutrient deficiency.

What is included in Big "O"'s PHC program?

  • Regular, systematic schedule of landscape monitoring visits to detect and treat problems
  • Treatment for insects and disease
  • Timed fertilization
  • All health-related pruning needs (excluding aesthetic pruning and removals)
  • Chemical sprays (as needed)
  • Insect growth regulators
  • Biological control methods
  • A monthly report on the health of your landscape
  • Monitoring and recommendations for treatments of included* and non-included**plants
  • A Landscape Map to keep track of various plant needs year-round

* Included plants include all woody, perennial trees and shrubs 20 feet in height and less.
** Non-included plants include all herbaceous annual or perennial flowers and trees over 20 feet in height. We still monitor these and make recommendations. However, their treatment is not included in the PHC program.

Will you spray my plants each time you come to monitor?

Not necessarily, because spraying:

  • is expensive - due to the volume of product required
  • is wasteful - because insects only react to chemicals during specific windows of time
  • can eliminate beneficial insects - and therefore cause outbreaks of other insects (such as spider mites) that cause extensive plant damage
  • is illegal in large amounts - the EPA sets standards to keep us all safe from excessive chemicals, and we abide by these regulations.

Advantages of the PHC program

By catching problems early, you drastically reduce the large scale outbreak of damage caused by insects and disease. This reduces dependence upon and the number of chemical treatments (both an economic and an environmental benefit). Big "O" PHC subscribers tell us that they appreciate a professional Plant Health Care manager periodically walking through their property looking for problems from below and above with trained eyes.
